Today, for the first time in Italy, we had the chance to “touch” and taste the new Samsung SUR40 for Microsoft Surface.
It was a really intresting day passed at Samsung Italy talking about the possibilities that this world offers.
And the new Microsoft Surface look really great. Compliment to both the Samsung and Micrososft team for the hard works that ends up with a so well projected device!!!
Microsoft unveiled its Windows 8 developer preview earlier this week, but how does it compare to iOS?
Microsoft has done some impressive work with Windows 8 to make it truly slate friendly. Hardware specifications and specifics are still being fleshed out but the core software compares favourably to Apple’s iPad iOS 5 software. In the video below we compare several scenarios in Windows 8 to an Apple iPad running the latest iOS 5 beta. We could not extend this to more built in features like Mail, Calendar, App Store etc as a lot of these experiences are not available in the developer preview build of Windows 8. As Windows 8 progresses we’ll post a more in-depth comparison between the two to highlight both company’s tablet offerings.

At IFA 2011, we saw this exciting concept of interactive window where the user can interact with physical objects placed on the shop window.
In our opinion a little 'overengineerized" but certainly having an effect.
The hardware used in the concept is not Kinect or Asus, but you could achieve the same effect with these devices.
We would like to create a showcase where the user, to interact with the graphical interface, can continue touching the glass and in case indicate an object on the show window, Kinect, seeing the gesture, will show that object he saw.
After that the user may interact with the interactive shop window "tapping" the glass of the window.
Just yesterday, our partner for touch foils has launched a new product by adding mutitouch feature to the previous product.
So now our lines of development, Surface and interactive displays, will start to coincide in the next few months, only one product used on all types of devices, including shop windows!

A recent article by Megan Garber of the Nieman Journalism Lab shows how The New York Times Company R & D Lab imagines a kitchen table of the future using Surface by which you can read the news while having breakfast in a natural way.
According to the article, they "betting breakfast will be less about sharing out newsprint and more about swiping through stories, ambient commerce, and the quantified self."

Just some days ago nsquared released a video showing the integration of Surface, Kinect. Windows Phone 7 and Slate PC devices and Microsoft's Surface.
The scenario suggested by Dr. Neil, nsquared director and founder, is a situation where the door handles needed for a building project are out of stock and need to be replaced.
Dr. Neil places his Windows Phone 7 on the Microsoft Surface table to view a text message and pull up the schematics document.
Then he uses Surface to look at the building from different views before placing his Tablet PC (Slate) down to pull up even more information for a different look before hopping in front of his big-screen TV and using Kinect voice command to view the floorplan with an almost virtual reality look to pick a new door handle.
